Why we need to know about eBay

     The 2013 World Economic Forum Enabling Trade report identifies that the use of technology can reduce many of the burdens that small businesses contend with when selling overseas and other borders as much as 60-80%.  The internet has allowed all businesses, big or small to reach global customers.  EBay relates that over 95% of sellers in their platform engage in exporting.    The World Bank data shows that only 15% of exporters of 3 years ago are still exporting, while eBay’s sellers, 74% that were exporting in 2011 are still exporting.

     There are:

~ 157 million active buyers worldwide that use EBay

~ $ 20.1 billion successfully closed transactions in Q2 of 2015

~ 25 million sellers in the marketplace

~ 190 countries have eBay apps

~the eBay app has been downloaded 279 million times

~2014 gross merchandise volume was $83 billion
